Oakland's Vinyl Vault - The Cars

It's time again to reach back into the vinyl vault! Today we take a break from Simon & Garfunkel, and hit the road with the debut, self-titled album from The Cars!

Release date: June 6, 1978
Singles: Just What I Needed, My Best Friend's Girl, Good Times Roll

The last half of 1978 must have been loaded with great albums, because that is the only explanation I can think of as to why this album peaked at number 18 on the Billboard chart. Listening to it today, it is hard to believe that it is not a greatest hits album. Practically all of the tracks receive airplay.

Musically, the album does a fantastic job of combining a steady rock rhythm, some new wavish sound effects, and simple, catchy vocals. I guess I really don't have too much to say about this album. It's much better to just listen to it.

Rating: 9 thumbs up - All the songs are capable of being stuck in your head. A great debut album that launched the band to stardom.

Now here's "Don't Cha Stop"
